Pre-Conference Workshop: Biomechanical Considerations of the Lower Extremity and OMT: Youth Athletes and Weekend Warriors

Dr. Michael Kuchera, author of the lower extremity chapter in several editions of Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine, has conducted extensive research on the application of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) for acute ankle injuries. In his two-day workshop, he brings this expertise to discuss the diagnosis of potential biomechanical risk factors. Participants will also be given time to practice OMT techniques that can be used to prevent and treat common lower extremity conditions.

This workshop will cover the following conditions, among others:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Flat foot (pronated foot)
  • Ankle sprains
  • Osgood-Schlatter disease
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome
  • Chondromalacia patellae
  • Leg length differences
  • Malalignment syndrome
  • Relevant myofascial trigger points
  • Common overuse syndromes of the lower extremity

In keeping with the theme of the OSD Congress, a focus will be placed on children and adolescents. However, the practical techniques are applicable to people of all ages.
