Pre-Conference Workshop: Biomechanical Considerations of the Lower Extremity and OMT: Youth Athletes and Weekend Warriors Dr. Michael Kuchera, author of the lower extremity chapter in several editions of Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine, has done extensive research on the use of osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) for acute ankle injuries. In his two-day workshop, he brings this expertise to discuss the diagnosis of potential biomechanical risk factors. Participants will also be given time to practice OMT techniques that can be used to prevent and treat common lower extremity conditions. Conditions covered in this workshop include:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Flat foot (pronated foot)
  • Ankle sprains
  • Osgood-Schlatter disease
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome
  • Chondromalacia patellae
  • Leg length differences
  • Malalignment syndrome
  • Relevant myofascial trigger points
  • Common overuse syndromes of the lower extremity

In line with the theme of the OSD Congress, the focus is on children and young people. However, the practical techniques are applicable to people of all ages.
