Course content

This two-part course series is designed to familiarize you with the original structural manipulation techniques, the “structure-tissue manipulations” and with this osteopathic conceptual approach. Far from the traditional leverage techniques and classic Fryette concepts, we will consider a completely different manipulation approach. It is carried out using techniques that are largely direct and therefore without lever arms. These techniques combine the fine palpation of tissues with structural manipulation. They are inserted with a minimum of tension, are extremely precise, comfortable for the patient and absolutely safe. They require no muscle strength and can be performed by anyone.

This course is primarily geared towards practice. All techniques are explained and practiced step by step in order to automate their application. The repetition of these techniques throughout the course allows you to go beyond technique to work on the quality of tissue sensation to optimize somatic dysfunction. A series of exercises is carried out to work on the “passive” implementation of the manipulation on the one hand and on the quality of the thrust on the other.

This course is illustrated throughout by clinical cases and is the subject of an exchange of experiences between the various practitioners.

We will treat the entire spine in two times three days. In the first course we will introduce a series of techniques that will be deepened and perfected in the second course. The first course is therefore about treating the cervical, dorsal and lumbar spine with precise and rigorous movements. This gradual introduction is achieved by repeating these movements.

Other techniques are subsequently developed on the basis of this facility. A lot of time is spent on achieving a good command of the technique. It is therefore necessary to complete two internships separated by an individual period of clinical implementation.

Theoretical approach and concept

Aims of the seminar

  • Explanation of the concept of “structural tissue manipulation” and the history of this term.
  • The connective tissue
  • The somatic dysfunction in this concept.
  • Physiological and pathological consequences of the lesion.
  • Various manipulative techniques, definitions
  • Interest in direct techniques
  • Introduction and definition of the parameters used (positioning, passive work, concept of center, concept of density, concept of rootedness, concept of presence, concept of convergence…)
  • Slack and Thrust, definitions, parameters, why, how?
  • Various “manipulative grips”.
  • Concept of tissue resistance tests

Practice

A diagnostic and test-based approach is considered for the entire spine.

The techniques covered during the six days:

  • Cervical spine: posteriorities, anteriorities, lateriorities
  • C1
  • C0
  • C7/T1
  • Upper back pain, various techniques
  • K1
  • Back pain with chest compression
  • Back pain in prone position
  • T12
  • Lumbar vertebrae
  • Sacrum
  • Pelvic shovel

Lecturer/s

Osteopathic training at the Ecole d’Osteopathie in Geneva; Master’s degree in Educational Sciences at the University of Aix/Marseille; own practice near Aix-en-Provence; lecturer in postgraduate training since 2007; development of his own concept of “Manipulation Structurelle Tissulaire”.
