Course content

In sports, great importance is placed on core stability. However, the effect of movement therapy on preventing complaints or improving sport-specific performance is limited or even entirely absent.

It is clear that the function of the trunk musculature has little to do with insufficient force generation, but is strongly determined by the tension balance within the trunk cavities. The tensegrity within the visceral system influences both the impact forces acting on the extremities and their movement patterns.

In this course, starting from the biomechanics of running, you will learn how to assess and restore the balance between the cavities, the wall structures of the trunk, and the extremities. Through embryology, we will learn everything about the form and behavior of organs, bones, and myofascial structures. What is their relationship in function and dysfunction, and what possibilities do we have to restore balance?

The runner serves as a starting point here, but the applicability of this approach extends beyond sports. We will learn diagnostic tests, treatment principles, and normalization techniques in the area of the body cavities and the surrounding myofascial tissue with regard to stability and an efficient movement pattern.

CONTENT

  • Core Stability: Evaluation of scientific literature
  • Embryology of the trunk cavities and extremities (form, metabolic areas, behavior, interrelationships)
  • Biomechanics of running
  • Tensegrity of the thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic cavities
  • Diagnostics and normalization techniques for cavities and wall structures, and their significance for the movement pattern of the extremities

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Gain insight into the factors determining core stability
  • Acquire knowledge about the form and behavior of the thoracic and abdominal cavities in relation to the stability of upright posture and limb function
  • Acquire general knowledge about the biomechanics of running
  • Understand the significance of tensegrity in the visceral and parietal systems, and their interrelationship
  • Learn and practice diagnostic tests, treatment principles, and normalization techniques in the area of the thoracic and abdominal cavities and wall structures
