The gut is considered the body’s largest hormone organ. Via neuronal, immunological, metabolic and hormonal signaling pathways, it is in close exchange with the entire organism. This webinar is aimed at osteopaths who want to better understand the gut–hormone axes from a scientific and osteopathic perspective and incorporate them specifically into their clinical assessment.

Building on this central role, we first look at the estrobolome and its significance for estrogen metabolism. We explain the physiological basics of enterohepatic circulation, the function of bacterial β-glucuronidase, and possible links between microbiome changes and hormone-dependent symptoms.
We then focus on the gut–brain axis, the HPA stress axis, and the gut–thyroid axis. It becomes clear how closely stress regulation, the autonomic nervous system, gut function and hormonal control are interconnected.

Building on this, the webinar explores the link between the microbiome, the hormonal system and malignancy. Selected examples illustrate the mechanisms by which the microbiome can influence inflammatory processes, immune regulation and hormonal signaling pathways.

The webinar concludes with an osteopathic perspective: How can these complex regulatory systems be integrated into osteopathic thinking and assessment models? The focus is on Hormone Osteopathy (according to Frühwein), which integrates the interplay of the gut, nervous system and hormonal system.

In this way, the webinar combines scientific fundamentals with osteopathic clinical reasoning and opens an interdisciplinary perspective on patients with functional bowel complaints, hormonal dysregulation and complex symptom patterns.
