With an aging population, osteopaths are increasingly encountering older adults suffering from multimorbidity, frailty, chronic pain, balance disorders, dizziness, cognitive changes, polypharmacy and functional decline. These patients need far more than just adapted manual techniques – they require a comprehensive understanding of the biological, psychological and social dimensions of aging.
This three-day masterclass from our Geriatric Osteopathy course series presents a contemporary, evidence-based approach to osteopathy that integrates current knowledge from gerontology, rehabilitation science, health promotion and osteopathic practice.
Participants will learn to distinguish normal aging from pathological aging, understand frailty and vulnerability, recognize common geriatric syndromes and identify warning signs requiring referral to a physician. Special emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning, patient-centered communication, prevention, interdisciplinary collaboration and safe osteopathic treatment.
The practical sessions focus on adapting osteopathic examination and treatment to the specific needs of older adults, taking into account tissue fragility, functional capacity, comorbidities and individual goals. Through clinical case studies and practical workshops, participants will develop practical strategies to improve functional capacity, promote healthy aging and support independence – all within the framework of osteopathic practice.
Course Topics:
This masterclass is designed for osteopaths who want to develop a modern, evidence-based and person-centered approach to caring for older adults that goes beyond mere symptom treatment and leads to comprehensive clinical decision-making.
