American physician and osteopath Sheldon C. Yao, DO, FAAO is Professor and Chair of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine and also teaches at St. Barnabas Hospital’s NMM/OMM Residency Program. Dr. Yao completed his osteopathic studies at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by a residency in Family Medicine and a fellowship program in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He is active in research and teaching, has published numerous studies on the effects of osteopathic manipulation, and serves as a reviewer for osteopathic journals. In 2025, he was elected President-Elect of the American Academy of Osteopathy and will serve as President of the largest medical osteopathic professional society in the USA in 2026–27.
