Course content

The course looks at the osteopathic treatment of children both in theory and in practice. The focus is on different areas of osteopathy:

  1. Theory and principles of osteopathy
    • Evaluation of the concepts of osteopathy
    • Osteopathic principles in pediatrics
    • Sutherland’s model of tissue attraction
    • Studies on the osteopathic treatment of newborns
  2. Practical approaches and techniques
    • Treatment approaches for babies and children
    • Practical experience in the treatment of newborns and children
    • Diagnostics and possible causes of dysfunctions
  3. Specific anatomical and physiological considerations
    • Role of fascia, viscera and the respiratory system in treatment
    • Consideration of diaphragms, fulcra and the perceived sense
    • Somatosensory integration in treatment
  4. Child development and birth
    • Development of newborns
    • Asymmetrical positions in the uterus and their consequences
    • Birth: process, influences and consequences for later life
  5. Psychosocial aspects
    • Relationship between parents and child
